Why Use Our PDF Merger
Built for people who combine contracts, invoices, and reports every week and don't want to hand their files to a stranger's server.
Files Stay on Your Device
Unlike iLovePDF, Smallpdf, or Adobe's online merger, nothing is uploaded here. Your PDFs are read by pdf-lib inside your browser and never leave it.
Free, With No Catch
No premium tier, no daily limit, no watermark, no signup. Merge as many PDFs as you want, forever.
Works Everywhere
Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone, iPad, Android — any modern browser works. No Adobe Acrobat, no Preview, no app.
Drag to Reorder Pages
Slide any file into position before merging. The final document follows your exact sequence.
Merge PDF Files Online — Free, Private, No Upload
You know the drill. Five invoices from five vendors, three chapters of a report you wrote in Word then exported to PDF, and a couple of signed contracts — all as separate files. Sending them one by one looks messy, and email clients start complaining around the fourth attachment. Merging them into a single PDF is the obvious fix, but most online mergers want you to upload everything to a server first. This tool skips that step entirely.
Everything runs inside your browser using the pdf-lib JavaScript library. Your PDFs are read directly from your disk, combined, and saved back to your device. Nothing is transmitted anywhere, which matters if you're merging tax returns, contracts, medical records, or client work.
What Merge PDF Is Actually For
The tool suits any situation where one document beats several smaller ones:
- Combining monthly invoices into a single PDF for your accountant.
- Merging signed contracts with their appendices before filing.
- Stitching a portfolio together from separate PDF exports of design work.
- Building a thesis or dissertation from individually exported chapters.
- Consolidating scanned receipts into one expense report.
- Joining legal filings, medical records, or real estate listings that came as separate PDFs.
How the Merge Works Under the Hood
When you click Merge, pdf-lib reads each PDF you added, extracts every page, and copies them into a brand-new document in the order shown in the file list. Text stays selectable, images keep their original resolution, and internal links or bookmarks travel with the pages where possible. Because PDF is governed by the ISO 32000 standard, the output opens correctly in Adobe Acrobat, macOS Preview, Chrome's built-in PDF viewer, and Microsoft Edge.
Reordering, Page Size, and What Stays Intact
Drag any file in the list to move it up or down before merging. The final PDF follows the exact sequence you set — no guessing, no reshuffling afterwards. Because each source PDF carries its own page dimensions, a Letter invoice next to an A4 contract will render correctly on its own pages. Nothing is scaled or squashed to force a uniform page size.
What Doesn't Work (and Why)
Password-protected and encrypted PDFs can't be merged directly. The encryption blocks pdf-lib from reading the pages, so you'll need to unlock the file first in your PDF reader, then come back and merge the unlocked copy. Likewise, PDFs that are corrupted or only partially downloaded may throw an error — that's usually a sign the file itself is broken, not the tool.
Compared to Desktop Tools and Other Online Mergers
Adobe Acrobat Pro can merge PDFs, but it costs money and needs to be installed. macOS Preview can drag pages between PDFs, but the workflow is fiddly and it's Mac-only. Online mergers like iLovePDF, Smallpdf, and Adobe's own web tool work fine but upload your files to their servers, which is a non-starter for anything confidential. This tool sits in the middle: it's as quick as an online merger, but the files never leave your device, and there's no cost or installation either way.
